Saturday,
21st June 2008 at River Park, Winchester
(an event organised in conjunction with Winchester
Bike Week)
VC
Venta Winchester's cycle racing club, held its annual Cycle Slalom
Challenge at River Park Leisure Centre on Saturady 21st June as
part of Winchester National Bike Week. The event, designed as
part of British Cycling's Improve scheme to uncover and encourage
new talent in School Years 1-8, was made up of a number of obstacles
over a timed course including; slalom, rumble strip, ramp, grand
slalom, chicane and limbo bars with penalty points being awarded
for each footdown or obstacle knocked over. Just like in show
jumping the less points you pick up the better. This year's overall
winner was Stephen Robbins (Year 5) who completed a clear round
in the amazing time of 41 seconds. A total of 13 competitors scored
no faults with Joe Lambert, Edward Rogers, Joseph Swift and Christina
Meacock all being the youngest to go clear at Reception age, an
incredible acheivement which bodes well for the future.
